Biography

With their subtle blend of acoustic rock, Frantic Jack have fast become one of the most exciting new bands to arrive on Ireland’s music scene. With influences ranging from Dire Straits to Dave Matthews Band and Pearl Jam, the band has seamlessly molded their own unique sound and captured the attention of audiences across the country.

The bands debut album “Independence” is tipped by Hot Press amongst others as one of the top Irish albums of 2010. "Independence" follows on the successes of their first two Top 20 chart singles "Firefly" and "Free". On top of this the band have now achieved their first Top 10 single with "Hold On", the lead track off the new album.

The bands mainstream sound is felt in tracks such as “Hold On” and “Vancouver”, while songs such as “Rely On You” and “Fallen Heroes” showcase the bands acoustic roots. The debut album takes a walk through a host of genres along the way including heavier tracks such as “Old Coyote” and funkier tracks like “Free” and “Writing on the Wall”.

Frantic Jack consists of 5 members native to the Edenderry area. Daragh Fitzgerald on vocals and guitar, Mark Kelly on lead guitar, Pauric Hurst on bass, James Kearney on keys and Mick Holton on drums. To date, the band have played some high profile shows such as a sold out gig in Whelan’s, Headlined in The Village and supported the The Saw Doctors in the Olympia Theatre, as well as performed on the same card as the Undertones and Imelda May. After receiving 2fm’s single of the week for their debut single “Firefly” the band have never looked back and hope to continue their rise throughout 2010.

With a huge 6 week Irish Tour lined up for August/September and with over 25 shows in 14 counties across the country, the band is set for a exciting end to the year to go along with their debut record “Independence” hitting the shelves on July 23rd. With fast paced, energetic and entertaining live shows Frantic Jack is one to watch for in 2010.

Meet Daragh

Name: Daragh Fitzgerald

Age: 22

Hometown: Edenderry

Instruments: Singer and Guitar

Daragh started his musical career alongside Pauric Hurst in a funk/indie group called Japan 4 back in 2007. The band became well known for their entertaining lively shows locally and provided invaluable experience to what would become half of Frantic Jack.

Daragh only began singing by process of elimination when the early cover group were looking for someone to front their outfit but he quickly got to grips with the mic and guitar and now currently fronts Frantic Jack as the bands rise continues.

Comparisons to Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), Adam Duritz(Counting Crows) and Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20) give an idea of Daragh's vocal styling on the band. The bands overall sound is one of energy and power and this is epitomised in the vocals.

"If were not completely shattered after a gig we know we haven't tried hard enough!" FJ

With influence pulled from Victor Wooten to Bootsey Collins the his riffs and writing has the band travelling noticeably on the rhythm section of great Bass hooks and solid drum beats.

Recognised as the "quiet one" Pauric is an all round musician and as is the case with many great artists allows his musical ability to take centre stage with no need for amateur dramatics.

Touted as one of the countries best up and coming bassists, according to band mates the new album allows his talent to flourish

" The real extent of Paurics ability is brought to the forefront in the new album. There is some unbelievable stuff!" FJ

Instruments: Piano, Synth, Percussion

With over 10 years of band experience with established group Bumbletongue, James has reached new heights with Frantic Jack. As the oldest member of the group at 25 James has experienced as more in music than most at this stage.

As one of the groups founders in 2009, his idea for the band was simply to spread original music from an area bursting with musical talent but lacking in ambition. Now with the debut album on the way the next chapter of the band is on the way.

Described as possibly the most driven musician around James has pushed as hard anyone since the band inception in 2009 to make it a success. Musically he has evolved from a percussionist to the keys and his presence is felt in early songs such as "Careless" and "Hang From The Gates"
